Swamped in Louisiana

After more than two years of blogging inactivity I've decided to come back to this space. Throughout the years this blog has been both personal and political, but for now I'd like to turn it into a travel log. We'll see how long this lasts.

So, this weekend we drove to Lake Charles, Louisiana for a business trip that turned into a fun little getaway. After R was done with the business part of the trip, we drove for little over an hour to Lake Martin, just outside Breaux Bridge, Lousiana --cute tiny town.

We were there for a swamp tour. And it was great! Navigating through these beautiful --human created-- swamps and bayous felt like traveling through the illustrations of a fairy tale. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and even though our guide was not the most knowledgeable one, Champagne's Cajun Swamp Tours provided a good service.

After the tour we headed to the city of Lafayette, where we enjoyed a brief walk and a free concert downtown. The next morning we bought some pottery at a great little shop that features the work of local artists, and stuffed ourselves with the best breakfast we've had in a while.

Here are some pics from the swamp...

Cajun Benedict at The French Press. A twist on the traditional poached eggs on toast. Served with andouille sausage, boudin, and gumbo --which in my opinion is much tastier than hollandaise sauce.
